you know all the bullshit about holding the door for ladies?, here most people do it for everyone. it’s just unmistakeable, you’re close behind coming up to the door or gate, and the person in front of you will hold it open for you, even if he has to wait a few seconds for you. it’s just so nice of them because they’re in their own rush to go somewhere else, you’re a total stranger, even perhaps another asiatique touriste. i think the culture of holding doors is just amazing.
i think it’s enhanced by the seemingly endless numbers of non-automatic doors that are difficult to push open. there are those fare gates at the metro entrances to discourage people from jumping over, some RER exit doors, the endless corridor doors at Jussieu, more of the those flappy doors at Lila, and almost everywhere. i dont understand why there are so many of these tough doors.

Most people over where i am do it all the time too. Hold open doors that is. Common courtesy. Not an exception at all.
in singapore jx finds herself holding doors open for guys and girls alike. very few singaporean people hold doors open for others who are not related to them. [in an institute people tend to hold doors open. more frequently.] ~
it exceeds common courtesy when they hold doors open for you even though you are quite an unreasonable distance away.
i think in sg there arent many doors to hold open anyway.
opening doors in france is tiring. here doors are made to stay closed.
