Sevilla, or seville, probably the most visited place in Andalucia, España. A great pity that I only spent a day there, and less than 24 hours. It’s simply so pretty.
the day starts off with a train ride from Granada. and then feeling loss at the train station. well the station was lovelyly modern and pretty and fanciful and had great sloping travelators rising from the platform. it looked impressive. But of all their nonsensical provisions, i couldn’t find any visitor’s information, nor a map of the surrounding area. I wasn’t very pleased at all, because I didn’t have a map that showed the train station and I still couldn’t speak enough spanish. so i set off based on what i remember off googlemaps, thankfully i could find my way. fanciful stations not equals to visitor friendly.
i saw this bunch of people coming from a wedding, they were dressed up so prettily. i loved their hats and suits. really grand.
then after settling in, i explored a bit of the Triana area. they have really nice and old houses on the streets. so so so pretty. the neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful and sunny and unfaded.
and that’s the main river. nice river banks, with nightlife.
and i chanced upon this sewing competition or something like that
they also had stalls selling thread and sewing equipment. the colors in this city are so vibrant.
and then i ordered a Paella coz i was hungry, but i didn’t know their servings are so big
pretty Torros ring. the bull-fighting place
the 34deg weather made my world very topsy-turvy.
i thought that i must be crazy coz 2 weekends ago i was in stockholm at 1 degrees celsius, and then i got back to paris at 10 deg, and now it’s 34 deg. im surprised i didn’t fall sick or anything.
they like all their colors, incl pink.
they also crazily like to drink out in the streets. this one was insanely crowded, for no apparent logical reason.
otherwise there is lovely architecture to see
and they love taters, i suppose they call it patatas
one of the nice streets to get lost in, and i did get lost often
one of the top 3, or 4 cathedrals in europe, surprising.
i do admit that i was impressed by the sheer amount of decoration and gold in there. it was considerably more ornate than most cathedrals/churches. vachement fou. two organs as well.
wow this is the only photo of me. somebody take some unboring photo of me!
this is my dish of the trip, @#$%^&*( unintelligible spanish name, but i think it was grilled zucchini with fantastic tomato-based sauce. i am very picky with what i think is great (as opposed to decent) and this tasted fantastic by my standards. if i had discovered this resto/cafe earlier i would have severely exceeded my budget.
went to a little bar-place at night to try to catch some cheap-skate free flamenco. well they din dance much, but later on the guy started to sing. it’s jaw-dropping, all the passion in the voice. the guitar was great too. the guy sang until he was tearing! i have begun to think that one of the prerequisites is having long hair! =p
and then being poor, i took a 6 hr bus ride to madrid to get to the airport. (instead of paying 2-3 times the price for a 2 hr train) i cannot believe that i’ve been taking so many buses. it’s scary. i’m so glad im not on a package tour, else it’ll be buses every-where.
but anyway seville is utterly pretty.
