1812 (overture)

i think im almost mad. i flew back and immediately started doing things non-stop. and also playing game. and messing up my laptop. perhaps tonight i will get to sleep more than 7 hrs. jet-lag is definitely dead. jet-fatigue is probably over-ridden too.

what does it feel like to be back. hm. well i suppose people feel like, “I MIss YOU” kinda thing. er. to me, it’s more like “seems pretty much the same to me”. somehow it’s somewhat disappointing how little things have changed. mostly. it’s like, darn it’s hot, but then i’ve always felt hot here. ok yes most things aren’t very different. it hasn’t been that long anyway.

then you start to realise some little things are different. although not critical. just little things. and i also started looking at sg from a tourist point of view. amusing really. i got a tourist map at the airport. wow it’s good. it’s practically a set of guides. maps, eatings places, shopping places, stuff to see, everything. and worst of all, the little girls working at the counter look like schoolchildren doing part-time work. come on. a pity we can’t hire our middle-aged women or unemployed adults to do such work.

some things are irritating, like how our public transport works. I MEAN IT BLOODY SUCKS. seriously absolutely certainly idiotic !@#$%^&. i decided to self-censor to avoid offending people. but anyway, i found new problems with it. it mainly started with me wanting to get to sch. so i get out, i realise i dont know where’s my EZ-link card. fine. i think of activating my debit card that has ez-link capability (interestingly it doesn’t have NETS). then i find out that the ticket office at the MRT station only opens at 10am. wth. alright. so i have to buy a single-trip ticket. $1.70. then oh my #$%^& god i have to get another single trip for the bus. and i have to use EXACT CHANGE IN COINS to buy my bus ticket. hello? is that why we are a DEVELOPING COUNTRY. i bet they’ve never even heard of gmail. anyway that’s why they are absolute idiots.

1. i cannot buy an EZ-LINK card from a vending machine.

2. i cannot pay for my bus ticket in big denominations

other more minor stuff include:

1. $1.70 single trip, $1.69 on EZ-link card. i thought the discount was greater.

2. the buses have practically zero guides on board to indicate the route. other than a few measly pamphlets that can rarely be found.

3. i do not think they sell day passes or tourist passes. is there? and who the hell has time to refund an EZ-link card when the opening hours of the ticket office is so pathetic. are they discouraging the use of the card, or are they intending to give away more cards. then again, tourists should take taxis because the singapore dollar and public transport is so pathetic.

4. they can’t get their bus-timing system up, you mean paris is more technology savvy than sg?

5. trains here also have pathetic route displays and maps.

alright shall stop complaining about that.

anyways, i think that 25 deg celcius is too warm for air-conditioning. we should have it at 23 or something. 25 is too warm. whoever decided on 25…

anyway i was thinking about the 25 and i decided that humans are selfish. why in the world are we so concerned about saving the earth and being environmentally friendly? so that we can continue to survive in the world. wow. so helpful. why is the world getting destroyed? coz we are here. so what should we do? kill ourselves. right. no we should emigrate to another planet. they want to save water so that there will still be water in the future, they want to reduce greenhouse gases so that it doesnt get too hot for us, they want to find alternative energy sources so that they can run all their gadgets forever, they want to do everything for themselves, why doesn’t anybody think of it this way?

it’s also interesting to be back in the world of autoclaving, sterility, pipettes, blue tips yellow tips, falcon tubes, centrifuges, micro litres, rpms, IPs, incubation. it’s also oddly undistressing to see the words HIGHLY TOXIC, and to see ultra-pure chemical powders floating around. i wish microscopes weren’t limited by wavelength.

cheers to the free peoples of middle-earth
