yeah it’s a nice display. shrug. so? haha. enough fireworks. enough performers. what i loved was that despite all the hype and nonsense, it was another trueblue Olympic opening ceremony, with the classic rituals of olympic flag, pledge, absurd countries, crazy costumes (the heat!!!), the “I declare games open”, the dove, the ridiculously short torch bearer distances, the torch lighting (what a waste of fuel). no matter what zhang yimou (i dont know how to spell) wants to do, he can’t do much, coz so much of the olympics is independent of the country, that it sometimes doesn’t matter.
when you get to the competition venue, it’s the same standardised floor/pool/court/weights/net, in the blue color, with the same logo. well you get a different teddy bear. same rules, same competitors, same blocked-out world in your mind.same.
the absurd countries is amusing. more countries than recognised in United Nations. incl hong kong competing separately. but why. incl Brunei missing out on the deadline to register their 2 competitors. the deadline was ytd or sth. uber late.

i was especially glad to hear french announcements. french+english+chinese sia. fantastic i can understand all of them. stupid napoleon lost his wars, else there might be a french empire and fewer english thugs ard.
it is extremely unfair that male beach volleyball players cannot play topless, whereas female players can play in bikinis. not fair. anyway the guys play better.
i am amused by India’s athlete to population ratio. so few athletes.
