les grèves.

i was at trocadero, and i saw a statue of benjamin franklin, which reminded me of this statue of my ‘friend’ Dante Aligheri. this one was in barcelona. but yeah, Dante.

and then today i went to the library (faculty lib, bio) and found that it was closed. curses and curses. Translation of the sign (bottom): [...]

armistice

Fête de la Victoire 1945 (WWII Victory Day)
public holiday! like it bothers me much. i decided to go out to Chatêlet to walk abit, i found that the shops at les halles were open, but it was relatively deserted. hm, so where is the whole city on a public holiday. many shops on the streets [...]

flambé

It continues! The burning of the flame. as in, ppl burning the flame. nvm
the protests continue in San Francisco.
interestingly:
Richard Gere, a prominent Tibetan Buddhist who has been a consistent advocate of human rights in Tibet.
Gere belongs to the International Campaign for Tibet, one of several organizations that took part in Tuesday’s protests.
but anyway what’s cool [...]

olympic flame

what a day. it was really amazing. the short summary of it is that there were widespread and highly charged up protests throughout the route, the procession was repeatedly disrupted, cut short, many banners were put up, lots of Tibetian and RSF flags were waved. stunning.

now for the details.

neige

it snowed last night. in terms of probability this borders on the ridiculous.

it’s april, and temperatures hit 14 degrees last week, even though it was 0 to 8 yesterday
i’m in the city where it rarely snows
i just ran a marathon yesterday.

but it did. when i walked out to the metro at 11pm, there were flakes [...]

it’s 3am central european or romantic summer time and i sincerely feel like im suffering from summer time lag. wtf. but seriously, i’m wide awake, and Paris bothers me.
something is seriously crazy about this city, this Paris that is the Paris the world knows. As I have read, it’s seriously stuck. Proper Paris, the little [...]

poisson d’avril

( = April fool)
Europe may [...]

Seule Paris est digne de Rome

“Seule Paris est digne de Rome; seule Rome est digne de Paris”
Paris and Rome are Sister Cities. Something to do with fostering contact and cultural links. I never knew it was an official thing. Anyway I was wiki-surfing, and read a whole bunch of stuff about Paris, crap there’s so much I don’t know.
Anyway I [...]

il ne faisait pas beau

took a walk around Paris today. unfortunately the weather sucked, it was threatening to rain all the while, and the wind was so cold. took a little walk in jardin du luxembourg, always nice to see kids and fountain, and statues and garden chairs. got a nice picture of the kid playing with his boat.

then [...]
